When the games keep things simple it's a true joy to play but the problem is that they progressively try to put in more and more unnecessary mechanics and the more you play the more it starts feeling like a chore. Spyro is fun if a bit shallow as a character and the world around him is interesting enough. The first game barely has any story, the second one tries a bit harder and the third maybe tries a bit too hard but none of that really matters because at their core these are collectathon games for kids and you only really need enough plot to make an excuse for all the running around you're gonna be doing. The gameplay in all three games is more or less the same and that is great because it's mostly good all across the board. I never played Spyro as a kid but after a good amount of hype by a friend about the remaster I decided to give it a go and I'm glad I did.
